How was my Mother's Day you ask? Well, let me tell you. Ally made me chocolate covered strawberries, a cute flower pen and two different cards at Activity Days on Wednesday. She couldn't wait to give them to me so I got them on Wednesday. Jensen made a sillouette of himself in Kindergarten and gave that to me with a card on Sunday morning. Logan forgot about his cute card and didn't give it to me until Sunday night. This is what I got from Josh:
Isn't it fabulous? Isn't he the most thoughtful husband ever? He is such a wonderful husband that there is no way that I would have to order something like that for myself, huh?
Let's just leave it at that. ;)
It's really hard to get a picture of jewelry with a crappy camera so if you want to see what it really looks like (with other kids names on it) you can check out thevintagepearl.com. Needless to say I love it and expect to wear it a lot!
At church I even got a present from the bishop. I got released from Cub Scouts!!! Not that I'm excited or anything. I might be wishing to be back in Cub Scouts when I get a new calling. I will miss the boys and the people I've been working with, but I've been a Den Leader for a long time and I was feeling kind of burned out.
Our Relief Society lesson was about being a mother and there were several moments of laughter along with some uplifting thoughts. The teacher even quoted a poem about motherhood that my Mom has always quoted. I would like to share it with you.
Song For a Fith Child, by Ruth Hamilton. 1958
Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth
empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
hang out the washing and butter the bread,
sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She’s up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.
empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
hang out the washing and butter the bread,
sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She’s up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.
Oh, I’ve grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping’s not done and there’s nothing for stew
and out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo
but I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren’t her eyes the most wonderful hue?
(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
for children grow up, as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.
for children grow up, as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.
I love this poem and I will be using it as the excuse as to why my house is always messy! And it's also a good reminder to spend more time with my kids. It shocks me to think about how fast time has gone since I first became a mother 11 and a half years ago. And my "baby" is so big now. I keep looking around for "the baby" but he isn't there! He's growing up so fast!
Well, the rest of Mother's Day was spent at my Mom's for lunch and Josh's Mom's for dinner. These are two great women that I am glad my kids get to know and spend time with.
I love these kids and I am so glad I get to be their Mom!!
